What CrossFitters Are Saying

“I started with Burn and now I’m loving the regular CrossFit classes. I’m feeling stronger than ever and CrossFit has me enjoying everything I do, more, and that feeling keeps me coming back.”

Bridget J.

Teacher

“I’m busy. Professionally busy. I don’t have the kind of time I used to have to keep in shape. CrossFit workouts are hard, don’t take long, and have actually made me more productive.”

Aries C.

Personal Banker

“I take exercise very seriously. I like to compete in local CrossFit competitions, and I wouldn’t have started doing that without such a supportive group of trainers to keep kicking my butt!”

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I CrossFit?
Yes! Everyone can CrossFit. It is universally scalable, which means our trainers can modify or scale every movement so it fits your fitness level. Please do not be intimidated; nearly all of our current athletes have started at the beginning with our Intro Class program. Many were not serious athletes and some of those have never consistently exercised before joining. We have high school students to seniors working out in the same class together.
How Do I Start?
Your first step is to call or email and join the next available On Ramp program (for new CrossFitters). If you would like to come and observe a class first, please feel free to swing by during our class hours. To find more information on the On Ramp, please contact us.
What if I have bad knees/back/hips, etc?

The first focus of our gym is to teach you how to move properly so that you are safe. We will teach you how to squat appropriately, how to stabilize your core and protect your spine when you move, and we will progress you through full range of motion movements and increase the loads you move based on your form. Most of us come in with aches, pains, past surgeries, etc. We also come in with very poor mechanics, core weakness, and minimized range of motion. These are all very common causes to your aches and pains. Safety is our number one concern and we will work with your ailments and injuries through modifications of the workouts and movements.

CrossFit looks too intimidating.
We hear this from most all new athletes which means, most everyone in the gym that has come before you has said the same thing. We are a community that works out together and we support each other through the workouts. We promise you that the thought of our gym being intimidating will quickly dissipate minutes after walking through the door.
How intense are the classes?
Our workouts are all flexible enough to fit any fitness level. You get to decide how intense your workouts will be. However, our job is to help you take steps forward in your fitness as we see you are ready. In the beginning, workouts may take you twice as long (or even longer) than other athletes that have been CrossFitting for some time. As you become more fit, your times will slowly creep down while your loads will slowly creep up. It’s awesome!
What results can I expect?

A member can expect to get in the best shape of their life with Royal Pride CrossFit. Increased endurance, improved cardiovascular health, being stronger, faster, and leaner, with better mobility and flexibility are just a few of the benefits most people experience. You will feel better, sleep better, and most importantly you will be able to get through your day better. However, once you start, you need to come consistently, as we aren’t that “magic pill” so many people are looking for. So what are you waiting for?

Can I get a good workout in under 30 minutes?

There is overwhelming research that shows that shorter duration/higher intensity workouts yield higher benefits and results. By keeping the intensity up, we keep our heart rate high. By keeping our heart rate high we are working in an “anaerobic” state which then takes a fraction of the time to get significant results. The longer the effort the lower our intensity, which will take a long time to get the results you are looking for. Royal Pride CrossFit does go beyond 30 min workouts on occasion because it is important for your fitness to be able to work for long periods of time. However, the majority of our workouts are shorter in duration. If you have a shorter workout, and the body is stressed enough with the movements and the load, you can work harder by nature which can lend to a better response. It is sometimes hard to understand this until you try it. We will show you how a 5 minute workout can be much harder than a 30 minute run.

I am afraid I will get too big and bulky…
In order for people to get bigger (especially women) there are two things you would have to make a concerted effort to do. One: pick up very heavy weight on a frequent basis for very long periods of time. Yes, we are very much concerned about your strength and we do lift heavy some days, but strength is only one of the many physical fitness areas we work on. Two: eat an extremely high calorie diet. For most people to gain productive muscle mass it takes an effort in eating the right foods in a high amount. This is not something we focus on unless gaining significant muscle is your goal. Three: As we know, people do not all have the same body types. For women who say they “bulk up” it’s typically not because they have the special body type needed to put on muscle naturally, it’s because they are going through the normal process of building muscle and stop before seeing that process through completely. This point is normally when muscle starts to build and before the fat starts to shrink, and the point where there may be a slight increase in weight. This is normal and expected. Continuing past that point results in reduced overall body fat and less “bulk.” For more information on this cycle, please speak with one of our trainers.
I have heard you can get hurt doing CrossFit, is this true?
You can injure yourself in any activity, including walking down the sidewalk. Supervised CrossFit is more safe than most activities people perform every day. We like to work with people in 3 stages. First: Mechanics (learning how to do the movements with correct technique), Second: Consistency (the ability to do the movements over and over again with safe and relatively efficient technique), Third: Intensity (the speed at which you do the movements). One does not come before the other. We always start with Mechanics. This is why everyone has to start with our On Ramp program and why we progress you slowly until your mechanics/form is safe and efficient. You will see most beginning CrossFitters using PVC pipes for barbells until they understand the mechanics fully.
Do I have to get in shape first before I start?
This is a common misconception. The most elite athlete can come into the gym and find a workout challenging. You will never be “fit” enough. That’s why we are here and offer scaling options for each individual so that you can thrive in each workout on a personal level. Fitness is a lifelong journey, we are never really “there.”
Is CrossFit expensive?

Our rates are actually less expensive than any other group led workout programs in our local area. The reality is with the quality of instruction you get from our trainers, it is personal training at a fraction of the cost. If you are paying the top monthly fee of $125 a month and attend an average of 4 workouts a week, you are paying less than $8 per class. Most personal training will be a minimum of $50-75 per session.

Who are the class instructors?

At a minimum, all of Royal Pride CrossFit’s instructors have a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer Certificate. Most of them have additional certifications. Please see the “Tour” menu for more information on our trainers.

What should I wear/bring with me to the On Ramp program?
Please wear appropriate workout attire, as each class session will end in a short workout after moving there the mechanics lesson. Feel free to bring a notepad and paper to take notes, though it is certainly not necessary. We will provide you with a few informational handouts and have the basics written on a white board for everyone to follow along. Please DO bring a water bottle.
What’s stopping you?
Obviously only you can answer this. We’re guessing that if you read through all of the FAQs though, the answer should be “not much.” However, we’re here to help. Let us know if there’s a lingering question we can answer for you.
